To create a generation of conscious leaders who understand that every seed planted — in the ground and in their community — has the power to change the world.
Independence Gardens connects children, schools, and communities through real food experiences that cultivate leadership, sustainability, and purpose. From growing fresh produce in school gardens to reimagining how food reaches the table, we empower students to innovate, collaborate, and take action toward building a healthier, more equitable planet.
What began as one school garden has grown into a movement. Through programs like Come and EAT IT, The Beanstalk Project, and Girls Save The World, we’ve helped thousands of students discover the connection between the food they eat, the environment they live in, and the leaders they can become. Each program turns learning into doing — transforming classrooms into laboratories for leadership, innovation, and climate action. Our impact is measured not just in gardens built or vegetables grown, but in the young minds who now see themselves as changemakers shaping a sustainable future.
Every act of leadership creates a ripple. In Girls Save The World, that ripple becomes a circle — what we call Circular Giving. When girls take the lead in our challenges, events, or campaigns, their impact doesn’t end with them. The funds raised go directly to Independence Gardens’ programs that build gardens, teach nutrition, and spark curiosity in elementary schools. A girl’s idea in one community might help a classroom across the country grow its first harvest or taste a fresh vegetable for the very first time. It’s a living cycle of giving — where leadership nurtures learning, and each girl’s action helps another child grow.
