Parent FAQs - The Campus of Purpose-OS

The Campus of Purpose-OS™ gives young people greater opportunities to discover, build, connect, create, and lead. We believe parents and guardians should understand the environment supporting that journey.

Here are answers to some of the questions families may have about participation, mentorship, privacy, safety, and student information.

Purpose-OS™ is the digital home of the Girls Save The World™ ecosystem. Students can participate in leadership programs, the Life, Series™, Purpose Studios™, MentHERship™, service and impact experiences, team challenges, events, and other approved opportunities while building an evolving Purpose Portfolio™.

It is designed to connect experiences that might otherwise happen separately into one continuous leadership and life-readiness journey.

Purpose-OS is not an open social network and is not designed around followers, popularity, public discovery, or unrestricted connections.

Students participate through structured programs, cohorts, teams, events, projects, and approved mentoring experiences.

Traditional social platforms are designed to maximize attention. Purpose-OS is designed to maximize growth.

Programs may have different age, grade, geographic, or eligibility requirements. Purpose-OS uses age and program information to help determine which experiences and permissions are appropriate for each participant.

Girls Save The World™ remains rooted in expanding opportunity for girls. AMPLIFYHER™ experiences remain intentionally girls-centered, while select Campus of Purpose™ experiences may welcome other young people, families, educators, and community members.

Where parent or guardian consent is required based on age, program, or applicable requirements, the appropriate experience should not be activated until the required consent has been obtained.

Families should receive information about what their student is joining and the nature of the experience before providing consent.

Student interactions are designed around approved roles and experiences rather than unrestricted access.

Depending on the program, a student may interact with approved peers, GSTW staff and facilitators, MentHERs™, educators, volunteers, speakers, or industry and community partners.

Access and communication permissions may differ depending on the participant's role and the particular experience.

Purpose-OS is designed around approved communication channels and defined program relationships.

Adults participating through GSTW are expected to follow established youth communication and boundary standards. Mentoring relationships should not be moved into secretive or unapproved private channels.

A MentHER™ is an approved adult who helps a young person reflect, explore possibilities, build confidence, set goals, and develop her own ideas.

A MentHER is there to ask, listen, encourage, challenge, and connect—not take over.

MentHERs are not substitutes for parents, teachers, counselors, therapists, healthcare professionals, or other professional support systems.

MentHERs are expected to complete required GSTW onboarding and screening, including background checks, before participating in approved mentoring experiences.

They also receive training addressing youth safety, boundaries, communication, privacy, reporting concerns, cultural humility, student voice, goal setting, and the appropriate role of a mentor.

Screened MentHERs™ + Approved Adults

The safety of young people is central to the design of the Campus of Purpose-OS™. Adults serving in designated MentHER™, volunteer, or other youth-facing roles may be required to complete screening and onboarding before being approved to participate.

Girls Save The World™ and Independence Gardens use POINT and Checkr to support our volunteer and background-screening process.

When a background check is required, the process is initiated through POINT and completed through Checkr, an independent background-screening provider. Applicants provide the information required for the background check directly to Checkr.

POINT states that it does not receive, access, or store the contents of the Checkr background report. Instead, POINT receives the status of the check to help organizations manage volunteer eligibility. 

Screening is only one part of our approach. Approved MentHERs™ also complete GSTW onboarding and training addressing youth safety, boundaries, approved communication, recognizing and reporting concerns, privacy, cultural humility, student voice, and the appropriate role of a mentor.

A completed background check does not replace boundaries, training, supervision, or accountability. We believe all four matter.

Depending upon participation, information may include account and eligibility information, interests, strengths, goals, program participation, projects, reflections, skills, service, achievements, Purpose Assessment responses, and Purpose Portfolio™ evidence.

Additional technical and security information may be collected to operate and protect the platform. Our Privacy Policy explains these practices in greater detail.

Purpose-OS should not be treated as a public social profile. Student information and portfolio visibility are designed to be intentional, permission-aware, and appropriate to the student's age, program, and applicable settings.

The Purpose Portfolio™ is a student's evolving record of what they have learned, built, contributed, and led.

It can capture projects, prototypes, skills, presentations, reflections, service, credentials, leadership experiences, and other evidence of growth.

We want students to speak up. Students and families should use the available Report a Concern process whenever an interaction, message, behavior, or experience feels inappropriate, unsafe, or inconsistent with GSTW Community Standards.

Concerns are directed to authorized GSTW personnel for appropriate review and follow-up.

Purpose-OS is not an emergency response service. If a child or another person may be in immediate danger, contact 911 or the appropriate local emergency service.

Absolutely.  Parents and guardians are part of the Purpose-OS community. Questions about participation, consent, safety, privacy, or a student's experience are welcome.
